When we first considered the idea of a compilation CD as a fundraiser for Music for Everyone, we had no idea how many bands and musicians might respond. But we were astounded by the number of submissions we received and further amazed by the variety of styles, the originality and the depth of talent. As this CD proves, there are a lot of Lancaster County musicians out there -- in their homes and studios -- working hard on their craft and honing their sound.
It was during the process of sorting through the 70 submissions that the beauty of the project became clear. Here were scores of local artists donating their time and talent to a CD designed to raise resources to enhance music programs in our schools and community so that others might have the opportunity to enjoy and learn through music participation.
Paring down the vast array of songs to one CD length was not easy. Using a blind selection process that required many hours of listening and much thought and debate, we chose roughly 14 songs. But we could have just as easily chosen 14 other songs. The quality and breadth of submissions was that strong. That said, the opening and closing cuts bear mentioning. These songs were performed by 5th grade students at Burrowes Elementary School using instruments that were purchased with an MFE grant. It is a great example of what MFE is all about.
We hope you enjoy this homespun, original collection of songs. Some flawed, some beyond perfection, but all joined together for a very important cause.
Thanks for listening and thanks for helping Music For Everyone cultivate the power of music in Lancaster County.
