Music For Everyone has awarded over $550,000 in grants so far!

Lancaster, PA – Music For Everyone, a Lancaster-based non-profit charitable organization that raises money for music programs for schools and community arts groups throughout the county, presented $85,535 to 51 different schools and community arts organizations at the May 1, 2015 First Friday event in downtown Lancaster. The awards be presented at Binns Park in the 100 block of North Queen Street. Festivities began at 5:30 PM with live music and an official check presentation. Music was provided by several groups and choruses from schools that have received grants.

“Due to the continued, generous support of the Lancaster community, MFE was able to increase its’ yearly grant awards to over $85,000,” said John Gerdy, founder of Music For Everyone. “While we’re pleased with the positive impact these grants will have, we’re very much aware that the need is still great. That need was obvious in the over $240,000 in requests we received.”

“Music for Everyone provides a great service for the community.” Said Michael Slechta of the School District of Lancaster, “The grant dollars provided to the School District of Lancaster continue to allow us to get more students involved in our bands, orchestras, and other music programs, programs that engage students in high levels of thinking and are correlated with positive school achievement. Together with other MFE programs and other community partners, we are making a positive musical difference in the lives of Lancaster’s children and families!”

Disbursed annually in the spring, grants are awarded to support programs that increase access to music, typically for underserved populations in Lancaster County. Special attention is given to requests that support school music programs and programs that introduce children and youth to music. Since 2006, all of Lancaster’s 16 school districts have received a portion of the over $500,000 in grants that MFE has awarded through this program.

Music at the May 1st event was provided by ensembles and groups from several of the schools that received grants including: The Schaeffer Elementary Glee Club, Vision Corps Ukulele Stars Program, The Brecht PTO Intro to Violin Group, The Burrowes Elementary Band, and the MFE Student Strings.

Music For Everyone is a Lancaster-based non-profit charitable organization dedicated to raising awareness and resources to strengthen the role that music plays in schools and the community in Lancaster County.
